Pandora's Box

Bree

Tony so has my number. The ride, the food, the wine, and that gorgeous sunset … this is the best date I’ve ever been on, and it’s not over yet.

Even the phone call from Mom didn’t bring it down.

I feel every inch of him at my back as we sit here and watch the sunset. Suddenly, he ups his game and kisses my neck, sending tingles all the way down my body. Well, halfway down.

The man hasn’t even gotten to second base yet, and one kiss on the neck has me ready to implode. I should tell him no and back away, but my body overrules my brain with a litany of “Yes. Yes. Yeses.”

My body’s an idiot.

While I try to decide if I want to attack him or run for the hills, he shifts behind me.

“Time to go,” he says, and I’m both relieved and disappointed.

“Where to?” I ask.

“It’s a surprise,” he smugly replies.

“You know I hate surprises,” I remind him.

“Yeah,” he answers with a hint of laughter in his tone.

Turning, I glare up at him. His eyebrow quirks in challenge.

“Fine. Let’s get this over with,” I grouse as I hop up, stomp over to the bike, and grab my helmet.

Before I can put it on, he grabs it out of my hands. “Let me help you.”

“I think I can manage putting on my own damn helmet, Tony,” I grumble.

His lip tips up. “True. But I like taking care of you.”

I huff like his wanting to take care of me is a huge imposition.

His stunning green eyes warm, and I want to bask in them. Which he somehow knows because they get even warmer. Then he pulls my helmet down and squeezes my shoulder.

Once he’s situated on the bike, I slide in behind him. Just like earlier, we fit perfectly. Like I belong on the back of his bike.

It doesn’t take long before I settle in for the ride and think about my choices. If I do this, let this happen, I’m making a huge mistake. But this is Tony. He’s been the only guy I’ve wanted since I was six. And let’s face it. When he kissed me that first time, he cracked open Pandora’s box, and we’ll never get it closed again. It’s going to kill me to watch him walk away. And he will … Everyone does.

But a little voice in my head is telling me to take this ride with him for as long as I’m here. My heart’s going to end up broken either way.

So why not? Because losing him is going to hurt me in a way I may never recover from.

When we turn on Solitaire Lane, my heart skips a beat. He’s not taking me to a quiet bar for a drink or somewhere we can listen to live music. Nope. He’s taking me home.

His home.

I close my eyes and take a calming breath. We’re already here. I need to chill out before he thinks I’m a nutcase.

Who am I kidding? This is Tony.
